WHEN SHOULD I ASK FOR HELP?

You don't have to wait...

until breastfeeding becomes extremely difficult before asking for support.

Consider contacting a lactation consultant if:

  • Breastfeeding is consistently painful.
  • Your nipples are cracked or bleeding.
  • Your baby struggles to latch.
  • You are concerned about milk supply.
  • Your baby is not gaining weight as expected.
  • Your baby is unusually sleepy or difficult to feed.
  • You are concerned about wet or dirty nappies.
  • Your breasts are painful, red or swollen.
  • Your baby frequently comes off the breast.
  • You hear persistent clicking during feeds.
  • You are considering stopping breastfeeding because of difficulties.
  • You simply want reassurance that breastfeeding is going well.

Most importantly:

You don’t need to have a problem to ask for support. Sometimes reassurance is exactly what a mother needs.
